Please join us at Mana Contemporary as we celebrate the opening of Before Identity Takes Form, an exhibition by Mana Contemporary Studio Artist Kota Onouchi.

Before identity takes form, names, definitions, and meanings remain open, unfixed and undefined. The moment we attempt to describe something through language, it begins to take on a particular meaning.

Onouchi’s work explores this space before definition: the moment before identity takes form and interpretation becomes fixed. Through painting and printmaking, he seeks to make visible what exists before language, what has not yet been named, defined, or fixed.
