An exhibition spotlighting the intersectional voices of thirteen women artists across painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, film, and performance.

Now in its fourth iteration, Overlap: Life Tapestries continues its vital inquiry into the complexities of gender, identity, and representation through the work of self-identified women artists. Curated by Vida Sabbaghi, the exhibition foregrounds intersectional narratives that question and confront the systems shaping the visibility of women in the arts.

This latest presentation brings together thirteen artists - Carrie Alter, Bri Cirel, Paola Fiterre, Angela Fraleigh, Carla Goldberg, Sascha Mallon, Yerang Moon, Linda Stein, Jean Shin, Lola Flash, Shari Weschler, Martha Wilson, and Alida Wilkinson, whose works are at once personal and political, grounded in the materiality of lived experience. These artists span a range of generations and disciplines, working across painting, drawing, photography, digital media, sculpture, and performance. While diverse in material and approach, their practices collectively interrogate

how identity is constructed, fractured, and reassembled through experience.

Sabbaghi’s approach highlights the nuanced and multifaceted stories of women artists often overlooked in traditional presentations. Overlap maps a rich terrain where gender intersects with race, nationality, class, and sexuality, offering viewers visual depth and a recalibrated vision of representation within contemporary art.

Previously shown at Pen + Brush, an institution long committed to advancing the visibility of women artists, this new iteration affirms Overlap: Life Tapestries as an evolving platform for bold, socially conscious, and emotionally resonant artmaking.
