River, Flood, Fire – Jill Scipione

See the exhibit from 2 to 6pm on March 6, 2026. Firmament Gallery, floors 1 and 2, Nimbus Arts Center, 329 Warren Street, Jersey City. Presented by Drawing Rooms and The Firmament Gallery.

Jill Scipione presents large-scale works on paper and a crocheted wall installation from her River, Flood, Fire series, exhibiting works developed over the past decade in her own trilogy of humanity and the natural world. In doing so, Jill offers a fitting companion to Nimbus Dance’s world premiere of “ANIMA” at Nimbus Arts Center.

Towering fluid, volumetric forms are built of layered expressive strokes of light and dark tones with deep blues and bright reds. Sourced from both sacred art of the Renaissance and current documentation of natural forces: the Madonna’s robes, historic storm documentation, and controlled burn manuals–they describe a balance between human and natural dynamics. The divine, the human, and the creation are all embodied in one. Powerful environmental forces of weather, water, and fire that both feed life and bring destruction are leavened in the eyes of the artist, with hope and mercy.
