Bringing Poetry to the Stage: Talking with Ann E. Wallace & Speranza Theatre Company


In fall 2021, Speranza Theatre Company will stage a full-length production of Ann E. Wallace's poetry collection Counting by Sevens. Join us for this conversation between Wallace and Heather Wahl of Speranza about the writing process, as well as plans to bring the work to life onstage.


Ann E. Wallace, PhD, Associate Professor of English at New Jersey City University, is a widely published poet and essayist who strives to tell multi-faceted stories of illness and disability, motherhood, and the traumas and joys of the everyday. Her collection Counting by Sevens was published in 2019 (Main Street Rag) and Wallace is currently working on a book on her experience living through long-haul COVID. Speranza is a non-profit women's theatre company and member of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance. Founded to provide an opportunity for artists, particularly females, to share their voices through entertaining and challenging theatre, Speranza presents professional theatrical performances, free readings of new works, and educational programming.
