#2000Bananas is a traveling installation of hundreds of handmade ceramic bananas created and curated by artist Tina Maneca. The artist made molds from 23 distinct looking bananas, slip cast and delicately refined the molded bananas. The majority of the installation consists of Maneca’s creations, highlighted with bananas painted by 20+ invited artists.
From Andy Warhol’s iconic banana silkscreen for the Velvet Underground’s 1967 album cover to most recently Maurizio Cattalan’s duct taped banana installation, she too is using the banana as a pop culture reference.
Now in its 5th installation, a percentage of the sales will be used to produce future group exhibitions, showcasing Jersey City Artists. The installation is a thoughtful, fun and collaborative effort created in the spirit of “artists supporting artists” emphasizing a DIY approach to funding.
Participating artists include: Andrea Morin, Lucy Rovetto, Amy Rubinger, David Lynd, Orlando Cuevas, Joe Waks, Isabelle Duverger, Bill Rood, Stephanie Daniels, Stephanie Romano and many more!!!
