Evening Star Studio presents, STICK AROUND FOR JOY, an exhibition of ceramics that remind the viewer that important tools of resistance include persistence and joy. In this unpredictable and often frightening political moment we can find many forms of resistance: judicial, political, union support, boycotting, journalism, mutual-aid, public media support, community building and more. Through all of these tools an important aspect, often overlooked, is joy. While the attacks on liberties and services seem overwhelming they are not insurmountable. In this exhibition eight local artists share works that explore joy as an act of protest, as a story, as an action and as a call to care. Joy is powerful and complex. These artworks ask the audience to remember our collective humanity through humor and myth, joy and love, care and sustained resistance. It is the hope of this curatorial project that joy fosters our next steps. We are stronger in the light. Let’s stick around for that too. Gallery hours daily 8am-1pm.
